America’s familiarization training pays off during F-35B DT-III
PACIFIC OCEAN (NNS) — Amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6) successfully completed its fifth day of F-35B Lightning II developmental test (DT-III) with the support of flight deck personnel who received specialized training in Yuma, Arizona, earlier in the month.
Marine Operational Test and Evaluation Squadron (VMX) 1, Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 211, and Air Test and Evaluation Squadron (VX) 23 began landing the F-35B aircraft aboard America Oct. 28 and were received by a fully-trained America flight deck crew.
Prior to beginning flight operations with the F-35B, a group of flight deck aircraft directors and a crash and salvage team assigned to America’s Air Department spent three days at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, Arizona with VMFA 22 for familiarization training on the aircraft… Read more here.
