JUMP networking social at Sine' Irish Pub (Arlington)

On March 24, the JUMP team hosted a networking social at Sine’ Irish Pub on Pentagon Row in Arlington, Virginia. It was an informal night of fun networking and socializing with others who have served in Japan!

First Annual JUMP Dinner at the Army and Navy Club (Washington, D.C.)

On March 3, 2016 JUMP (the Japan-U.S. Military Program) in collaboration with Sasakawa USA hosted its first annual JUMP dinner at The Army and Navy Club on Farragut Square.

The theme for the dinner was the future of the U.S.-Japan Alliance, featuring speakers General Robert Neller, Commandant of the Marine Corps, and Admiral Dennis Blair, former Director of National Intelligence and Commander of Pacific Command.

Japan and U.S. military band joint appreciation mini-concert (Washington, D.C.)

The Defense Attaché office at the Embassy of Japan is pleased to present a Japan & U.S. military Band Joint Appreciation Mini Concert for Operation TOMODACHI in commemoration of the Fifth Anniversary of the 3.11 Great East Japan Earthquake, and the First Anniversary of the Japan U.S. Military Program (JUMP).

Seven musicians from the Japan Ground Self Defense Force Central Band and six musicians from the 257th Army Band, Washington, D.C. Army National Guard performed together in appreciation of all those who supported the TOMODACHI operation during the earthquake and tsunami disaster 5 years ago. This event also symbolized the close relationship between Japan and the U.S. both in the past and looking toward the future.

Japan Festival at Marine Corps Base Quantico (Virginia)

Japanese culture and fun were shared with all at the family-friendly Japan Festival on February 26, 2016 at Ellis Hall on Marine Corps Base Quantico (map).

The event included a ninja skit, Okinawan classical dance demonstration, a play featuring traditional Japanese music, Japanese food, traditional games and toys for children, and more. Teams from both the JUMP Program and the Embassy of Japan also attended.

Reception in honor of service members and their families who have been stationed in Japan (Tampa)

On February 16, 2016, the Consul General of Japan in Miami, Mr. Ken Okaniwa, hosted a reception at Port Tampa Bay in honor of members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their spouses who have been stationed at American bases in Japan. The event included a presentation on the current state of the U.S.-Japan alliance and networking between members of the U.S. Armed Forces and the Japanese community in the Tampa Bay area.

U.S. Bases in Okinawa: What Must Be Done, and Quickly (Washington, D.C.)

On January 14, 2016, Sasakawa USA (a sister organization to JUMP) celebrated the release of “U.S. Bases in Okinawa: What Must Be Done, and Quickly,” a new report co-authored by Sasakawa USA Chairman Admiral Dennis Blair and JUMP Director James Kendall, with a roll-out breakfast.

JUMP on Board the USS Iowa (Los Angeles)

The USS Iowa gained a a new crew of past and present United States and Japanese service members on November 19 when JUMP held its inaugural Los Angeles event aboard the retired battleship museum.

The JUMP (Japan-U.S. Military Program) event, hosted by the Japan America Society of Southern California with support from Sasakawa Peace Foundation USA and the Consulate-General of Japan in Los Angeles, brought together those with the shared experience of having served in Japan for a social night of building new relationships.

JUMP Reception at the National War College (Washington, D.C.)

More than 120 potential “goodwill ambassadors” for Japanese relations in the United States attended a standing-room only JUMP panel and reception November 17 sponsored by Sasakawa USA and the Japan-America Society of Washington, D.C.

JUMP Takes Flight at Pensacola Aviation Museum (Florida)

The Japan-America Society of Northwest Florida will be organizing a JUMP event in Pensacola, Florida for September 4, 2015. The event will be held at the National Aviation Museum in Pensacola and include a presentation in the Blue Angels atrium followed by a reception on the USS Cabot flight deck.

JUMP-Japanese Community Night at Petco Park (San Diego)

On Monday, August 10, the Japan Society of San Diego coordinated “JUMP – Japanese Community Night at Petco Park” at the San Deigo Padres game. The event included entry to the baseball game, a pre-game gathering at Petco Park auditorium and an all-you-can-consume barbeque in a private rooftop area.
