Top court to let stand ruling in favor of U.S. base relocation

Japan’s Supreme Court decided Monday to issue a ruling on Dec 20 over a lawsuit filed by the state to push for the controversial relocation of a U.S. base in Okinawa Prefecture without conducting a court hearing, in a sign that it will let stand a lower court judgment against the prefectural government.

A hearing at the apex court is a procedure vital to review a high court ruling. The latest decision thus means the top court is set to uphold the sentence by the Fukuoka High Court that supported the state over the plan to move U.S. Marine Corps Air Station Futenma from a crowded residential area in Ginowan to the less populated Henoko coastal area of Nago… Read more here.
