On Saturday October 7, 2017, JUMP and the Japan-America Society of Northwest Florida (JASNWFL) held an event to reunite and honor those who have served in Japan. This joint event will feature speakers such as Consul General of the Consulate General of Japan in Miami Ken Okaniwa and retired Navy Rear Adm. James D. Kelly, former Commander of Naval Forces Japan, and include entertainment by an ensemble by Marco Lienhard, the renowned Japanese drum and Shakuhachi bamboo flute player from New York, and Mayumi Shara, a drummer playing jazz, blues and R&B from New Orleans.
The event took place at the National Naval Aviation Museum at 1750 Radford Blvd. in Pensacola, Florida at 1:00 pm. Following the speakers’ remarks was a reception on the USS Cabot flight deck, ending at 4:00 pm. Tables representing U.S. bases in Japan in places such as Okinawa, Sasebo, Iwakuni, and Yokosuka were set up from 12:00pm to 1:00pm, allowing service members to reunite at the tables of interest. Table visitors received a U.S.-Japan flag pin.
This event was free and open to the public.
