Japan Honors Arkansas resident Colonel Douglas Charles DeLaMater, U.S. Air Force (Ret.)

United States Air Force Colonel (ret.) Douglas Charles DeLaMater received a prestigious decoration, the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon, from the Government of Japan in recognition of his outstanding contributions to Japan-U.S. relations. The decoration was conferred by His Majesty the Emperor of Japan on April 29, 2017.

Colonel DeLaMater made numerous contributions to the strong partnership between the U.S. Air Force and the Japan Air Self-Defense Force at Yokata Air Base in Tokyo. Under his leadership, the Japan Air Self-Defense Force participated, for the first time, in a joint operation to deliver humanitarian and disaster relief assistance with the 374th Airlift Wing.

What’s a War Game Without a War? JUMP Executive Director interviewed in Asia on Air podcast

Sasakawa USA recently released the fifth episode of Asia on Air, its new podcast committed to delivering the latest analysis of U.S.-Asia relations. The fifth episode, entitled “What’s a War Game Without a War?” includes an interview with JUMP Executive Director, James Kendall, who explains what a tabletop exercise (or “TTX”) is, and goes on to describe the exercise conducted by Sasakawa USA involving crisis scenarios that could potentially occur in the East China Sea.

Lt Gen Francis Wiercinski underscores the “ichidan” spirit of JUMP for SDF and U.S. service members and their families

Lt Gen (ret) Francis Wiercinski emphasizes the importance the teamwork between U.S. forces and JSDF, and the importance of maintaining friendships and relationships in his endorsement of JUMP.

“JUMP is a gathering place where we share our story and do our part in maintaining the U.S.-Japan alliance and the people-to-people relationships between our defense forces and families in the years ahead. It is also an important people-to-people program that continues to help us hold onto our relationships … and to live together as one team!”

JUMP event in San Diego highlighted by local media

Ambassador James Zumwalt, CEO of Sasakawa USA, former U.S. ambassador to Senegal and Guinea-Bissau, and native of San Diego, was highlighted in a recent San Diego Union Tribune article while participating in JUMP’s Marine Corps Recruit Depot Breakfast Reception event in San Diego. The article also highlighted JUMP’s activities in San Diego and throughout the U.S. At the June 15 event, Ambassador Zumwalt greeted 200 Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force recruits, on a ship visit to San Diego, with a talk on the U.S.-Japan alliance.
